The Teaching Staff The school follows the British Curriculum. In addition the pupils are given the opportunity to acquire the basic skills of a second language with the school providing a Mandarin course at no additional cost. The Principal of the school actively promotes the concept of team-teaching. All educational matters within the classroom are handled by the teacher in charge. In order to maintain a consistent high level of teaching during the school year, the teacher may suggest to the Principal to promote or demote pupils according to their academic performance in the class. P6A SeniorTeacher and ICT and Outdoor Education activities coordinator Tom Vujnovac is a Canadian citizen. With a dual background in psychology and education, Tom Vujnovac graduated from York University in Canada. He joined LIS ten years ago. P5A Senior Teacher and Science and PE coordinator James Lambert is a British citizen. He graduated from Manchester University and has a dual background in Education and Sciences. He joined LIS ten years ago. P5B Teacher Bradley Emslie is a South African citizen who obtained his PGCE from the University of South Africa. Prior to arriving in Hong Kong, Mr Emslie has taught for several years at an independent school where he gained ample valuable experience. P4A Teacher and Arts and Topics activities coordinator: Kate Tamblyn comes from Australia and in with dual background in performing arts and education; she has acquired considerable experience in teaching British curriculum while working as a supply teacher in London, UK. P4B Teacher Billy Hui was born in Hong Kong. He studied in Canada and Australia. He got a Bachelor of physical Education and Health from the university of Toronto (Canada) and a PGCE of the University of Wollongong (Australia). P3A Teacher and English and Music coordinator: Ruby Bhatia was born in India. She got an engineering degree from the University of Rajasthan (Jaipur) in 1992. She then came to Hong Kong in 2000 where she obtained a PGCE from the Hong Kong University in 2004. P3B Teacher and SATS coordinator Pamela Venter is a South African citizen. She graduated from the University of Pretoria with a BLib. and got a postgraduate diploma in teaching at the University of South Africa. P2A Teacher Colleen O'Brien is a Candian citizen. She holds a BEd (Elementary) as well as a Ba of General Studies from the University of Calgary (Alberta). Theresa Lyons holds a MSc in Childhood Teaching from Pace University and New York State Certification in Childhood : Grades 1-6. P1B Teacher Charlie Ko (Estcourt) is a British citizen. She holds a PGCE from the University of Sunderland (UK) as well as a BEng Civil Engineering with Architecture from Leeds University. P1A Teacher and Senior Teacher (Head of the lower Primary P1 to P3) Suzan Lambert is a British citizen. She graduated in 2000 from Didsbury School of Education with a PGCE. Reception Class A (Mui Wo) Charlotte Chan was born in Hong Kong. She holds a PGCE (English Education) from the Hong Kong Institue of Education as as a postgraduate diploma ofEarly Education. She also holds a MA in Languages studies from the Baptist University (Hong Kong). Reception Class B (Mui Wo) Josephine Williamson is from Scotland, UK, but has been living in Hong Kong for the past seven years. After Taking a career break to spend time at home with her son, she has recently completed aMasters in Teaching (Primary).
ADDITIONAL STAFF
The school also provides extra curricular activities after school hours such as soccer, basketball, drama, Mandarin, choir and in-line skating. Those activities are optional, but in order to ensure that they are appropriately supervised, the school employs, on a short-term contract basis, teachers fully trained and equipped to offer them. AT and Mandarin teacher (Pui Wo) Sophie Chai is a native Mandarin from Northern China who moved to Hong Kong in 2010 to pursue her Masters in Linguistics, which she has successfully completed at the Hong Kong University. She has abundant practice in teaching Mandarin to children and adults of all ages. |
