TERMS AND CONDITIONS FOR SCHOOL YEAR 2011/2012

 

1. FEES

1.1.- The school does not charge a debenture. Tuition fees from Reception class to P6) are to be HK$5,720 per month (HK$57,200 for the school year). It includes the supply of textbook and stationeries, to the exception of the Chinese textbooks in use during the Mandarin lesson.

1.2.- The non-refundable application fee ($880) is payable with the completed, signed application form. A parent or legal guardian must sign this form. Such applications should be presented to the Supervisor.

1.3.- One month's deposit tuition fee is payable upon acceptance after the interview. The payment secures a space in the class and is non-refundable during the first term of the school year. Therefore, if for whatever reason, the registration is cancelled before the first term, the said deposit is forfeited. After December, the deposit may be used to offset one of the two month's notice withdrawal period. (see notice of withdrawal). Otherwise it is used to cover the June school fee.

In addition, for all new entrants at the primary level a HK$3,500 capital contribution fund (CCF) is to be paid at the time of registration together with the deposit. Please note that the following rules apply to the CCF. This contribution is fully refundable at the end of the school year provided all tuition fees have been settled on time. The CCF can be carried over for the following school year and until the end of the schooling of your child at LIS. If for any reason your child leaves the school before the end of the school year, the CCF is forfeited.

There is no CCF at reception level.

1.4.- The annual tuition fee approved at the time of registration may be reviewed in case of unforeseen circumstances. Such review can only take place according to the rules and regulations of the Education Bureau which has final say on the matter.

1.5.- No refund or deductions will be made for any absence from the School. In particular, no refund or deductions of fees will be made if the school is by order of the Health department or any government decision to that effect the school is required to suspend its classes. Notwithstanding such an order to suspend classes, the teachers would remain available and internet teaching would be arranged for as long as the suspension of class is in force.

1.6.- If a child attends school during a month for one or more days, the fees are payable for the entire month unless otherwise agreed in advance by the Supervisor that the charge will be pro-rata.

1.7.- The monthly school fee must be paid on time and we encourgae the parents to use the standing order facilities put in place with HSBC. In any case, the fee should settle within the first week of each month. A 5% surcharge will be invoiced if any month tuition fees are received after this time, and a 10% penalty will be applied if the fee is outstanding after the month. Furthermore the Supervisor may refuse access to the school to any pupil whose fees have been oustanding for more than a month. Finally the CCF is forfeited in case of late payments of the fees.

1.8.- When a child commences mid-way through a school year, clause 1.6 applies unless dcided otherwsie by the Supervisor.

1.9.- Parents having financial difficulties may apply for payment through twelve installments rather than ten. Furthermore the school has a remission policy for the second and third child of the same family or household. Applications for financial facilties and/or remission of fees should be done to the Supervisor and assistance will be considered on a case by case basis.

 

2. NOTICE OF WITHDRAWAL

2.1.- The notice is two months (60 days). The monthly tuition fee is payable during this period. The notice must be given in writing. In case of unforeseen withdrawal, while the parents must contact the administration at the earliest, the full fee remains due.

2.2.- Parents must inform the school not later than end of April whether their child would remain at the school the following year. Failure to inform would trigger automatically the vacancy of the space alloted to the child the following year at the upper level.

Attendance for the following year is confirmed by the payment of a one's month deposit fee advance as per clause 1.3 and the renewal of the CCF.

 

3. SCHOOL HAND BOOK

3.1.- The School Hand Book of the pupil contains the most updated terms and conditions of the school. Should any conflict arise between the website text and the Hand Book, the website terms and conditions prevail.

 

4. SCHOOL BUS

4.1.- The school has organised with a private bus company four routes, one from/to Discovery Bay, two from/to Tung Chung, and one from/to Mui Wo (Silvermine Bay). There are several pick-up and drop-off points along the routes. The administration of the school provides regular updates on the routes, the fees and the time-table.

4.2.- The school bus fee is to be paid timely by cheque in favour of the private bus company running the service. Any late payment may result in the school bus company refusing to take the child on board the bus.

 

5. WAITING LIST

5.1.- The Lantau International School is dedicated to children living on South Lantau. However children living elsewhere are also able to join the school if there is space available and they are at the required level. The School Supervisor is responsible for the final decision of acceptance,

5.2- Notwithstanding, priority will be granted to siblings and returnees (subject to interview by the class teacher) in order of acceptance onto the waiting list. Then, pupils are offered a place in order of first-come first- served acceptance onto the waiting list

5.2.- Children are accepted onto the waiting list at any age. The first application fee is $880. The application fee must be renewed every school year if the parents want to keep their child on the waiting list until the child starts at LIS. The renewal costs $150.

 

6. AGREEMENT TO THE TERMS

6.1.- The payment of the deposit and the monthly tuition fee is considered as a biding agreement to the terms and conditions of the school which may be revised from time to time.

 

7. RESPONSIBILITY

7.1.- The parents or legal guardian of the children attending the school are required to subscribe to a Public Liability Policy, Personal Injury and Damage to Property Insurance.

7.2.- The school is subscribing to a Public Liability Policy, Personal Injury and Damage to Property Insurance policy with a ceiling of HK$10 million. Although the school is providing supervision and do its utmost to provide a safe environment, the parents or legal guardian of the children agree to hold harmless the school, the staff, Lantau International Limited as well as Lantau Learning Center from and against any and all losses, costs, expenses and cause of action, including attorney's fees and court costs, for injuries (including death) arising out of incident to or in connection with the attendance of their children to the school's activities.

 

8. AFTER SCHOOL ACTIVITIES

8.1. After-school clubs from 3pm to 4pm are organized three times a week. Details are provided by the administration every term. Appropriate supervision for such activities is provided by the school and an additional insurance, if necessary, is taken to cover activities taking place outside the school premises. Registration is not compulsory and the said clubs are open to children who are not studying at LIS.

An appropriate fee is charged for the activities which are not part of the LIS curriculum. The number of participants per club may be limited to a specific number, according to the regulations.

The school is only responsible for its clubs. It is not responsible for any incident to or in connection with the attendance of the children to activities which may be organized by the parents after school hours.

 

9. ATTENDANCE RULES

9.1.- It is strongly advised to respect the school holidays planning (see calendar). If the attendance of a child falls below 90%, he/she may not pass to a higher grade the following year. Furthremore if the attendance falls below 80% without serious reasons, the Supervisor may take the decision to remove the child from the school.

 

10. TYPHOON SIGNAL & RED OR BLACK RAINSTORM SIGNAL RULES

In the event of a typhoon or a red or black rainstorm warning, please listen to the Education Bureau announcements concerning school attendance. You can check the morning TV news, radio or phone the HK Observatory (Tel: 1878 200 / 2926 8473) at 7.00am. For faster and more details informations, you can visit he Hong Kong Observatory website on internet.

If the RED or BLACK rainstorm warnings are hoisted during the school hours, children may remain at school until classes end as normal. However, we reserve the right to send students home in which case we will inform you as soon as possible. In case we are unable to contact you we have arrangemnets for your child to be dropped off with other parents. Please refer to "Typhoon & Rainstorm Precaution" which will be sent to you in the beginning of school year.

 

PLEASE NOTE THAT THE SCHOOL IS OPEN UNDER A TYPHOON SIGNAL 3, AS WELL AS AMBER RAIN WARNINGS.
